Tasting Notes

The intense garnet color of our 2016 Cabernet is striking. With a nose of classic Diamond Mountain as its base, the wine provides aromas of black cherry, cola and black currant. The wine is rich with flavors of Boysenberry preserves, vanilla and caramel. It has terrific depth that lingers afterward. This wine has gritty tannins that are wonderfully integrated, making this wine delicious now and well beyond 2030. We recommend opening one hour before serving.

Production Notes

Although the drought continued, the winter rains left enough water in the soils for nice vine development. The season started off quickly with nice warmth bringing a slightly early bud-break. Soils dried out quickly and, because of our rocky soil, we had to implement watering immediately after veraison. 2015 was a warmer than normal year and the a few late season heat spikes really benefited us up here at elevation. Although late season watering challenged us, it was a near perfect growing season allowing the fruit to develop beautifully. The result is wines with great color, exceptional aromatics and flavors and strong, but not over-powering, tannic structure.
